My grandfather ( John Wilson Burgess ) had a sibling named James Burgess, B. 1847,who was the first settler on Rum Creek. His wife was Nancy Allen Burgess.They raised their family in the head of the creek,at Lowe Mt. or now called Slagle. One of his aunts ( Arminta b. 1837) married into the Chambers, and started the Chambers families on Rum creek. Her husband was Harrison Chambers.There were no coal mines back then,so people lived off the earth. Also Elisha Lowe was another old setller on Rum Creek.His people are buried at Lowe Mt. cemetery, above where James Burgess lived.
